How to edit the subject line in replies in Gmail

Conversation threads is one of the features that we love in Gmail. It keeps our previous messages intact allowing us to keep track on the topic at hand. However, sometimes we need to reply or forward emails with a different subject while keeping it in the same group or thread of messages. It is possible to change the subject in Gmail though the feature is well hidden. Here is how:

1. Open Gmail.

2. View an email.

3. Click Reply located in the top right of the window.

4. Click on the arrow next to the recipient’s name and click Edit Subject.

5. In the Pop Out Reply view.

6. The subject line will appear under the recipient's name.

7. After you edit the subject line a new separate thread will be created and all subsequent replies will be grouped with the new thread.
